freedom

today we do not worry and stew about being discriminatory or unfair today we worry
about marriage being sacred while allowing lifetime partners to starve alone unfed
freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all
we have come to believe that the six year old child going to school not fully clothed
is less important than the billionaire becoming a trillionaire
freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all
blinded by greed we don’t tax the rich and give them our services
while we cut the police force and fire first responders
freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all
we wish to destroy the life of a single mother by declaring
single motherhood illegal as we take away her choices for being a mother
freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all
why is it ok to worship the seed of man as it lies  in the womb
yet declare the mother unwed not worthy of our company or food
freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all
the old lady down the street froze to death last night all the while
the gas company cutting her off  had the highest profits of the decade
freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all
i met a man today who told me how he loved to hate it made him feel
good about himself even as the war of hatred pounded at our shores
freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all
i watch as our principles are turned upside down greed is good
now we no longer teach science in school and nasa is nearly gone
freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all
the states are each broke the country lives on credit we are beholden to
those whom we hate but greed is good for all do not tax the rich
freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all
for it is them we wish to be like – not you
we don’t wish to see your poverty your blank stares
freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all
it is so much easier to love the unborn to rail and smash and burn for them
than to actually love our neighbor suffer with them feed and cloth and care for them
freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all
each day while crying out for freedom we allow for the killing of over
nine thousand citizens annually yes now we worship the gun or death
freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all
we declare the poor as unworthy of life of services and deny them their rights
they have become the lazy the filthy those not worthy of our company

freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all

  1. excellent raven…pointed and def needling as well at the beliefs and how mixed the message is that we are sending…contradictory…which makes the refrain all the more indicting…

  2. We have fast become a two tier society of the have and have nots. The haves could care less about those poor, down trodden beneath them, they are simply there to be used. This is all so true Raven. We have the usual big oil companies here, Esso, Irving, Shell, and they will not deliver any furnace oil that is for less than a half tank. It costs $1000 bucks to fill an oil tank now, and so people have to find $500 bucks before they will deliver and it has to be paid upfront too. Last yea one man decided to start up on his own with a tanker, he began offering the poorer folks (like struggling me) to just deliver to us what we can afford to pay. He will deliver 200 bucks worth of fuel if you can only pay 200. He was instantly inundated with deliveries and kept steadily busy all through this summer too. So busy, he's ordering another truck to start work through the coming winter. Thank God for people like him who want to make money but, do it helping others along the way too.Great post Raven. Strong message.

  3. This makes a lot of good points. It's funny how we accept certain things and not others, how we condemn certain things when we should have compassion and overlook bigger issues while obsessing over things that don't matter. Why does the world work contrary to better sense is truly puzzling. Perhaps everyone is crazy.Great to see you back. Love that new pic you just put up on this blog. 🙂

  4. Funny, I wanted to get back in the game – today. This tumbled out inspired by your way of writing and by how I felt. It is strong but by no means polished … no time. Ha! Thanks.

  5. Day … There is always someone good amidst all of the evil. This is a wonderful story of good. I hope that you write about it. Thank you. I am so very sorry that life is difficult now.

  6. lots of thoughts to chew on…def. powerful lines raven…loved also the repetition…freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all….awesome

  7. WOW! You have said a mouthful, Sister-Woman! No one could have said it any better. As I read, I was thinking we havent come very far from the days of kings and peasants, after all. By the way, I SO LOVE your header photo!!!!!!!

  8. we declare the poor as unworthy of life of services and deny them their rightsthey have become the lazy the filthy those not worthy of our company sad but true! very well written

  9. Claudia … I wrote this early this AM. Then I looked for a place to put it. I thought perhaps the refrain gave it balance and thus I could place it at dVerse. Guess that is kind of backwards. Thank you.

  10. Hi dear one. We are always walking down the same path … ;). Sending big (((hugs))). Thanks about the photo … took it on vacation and doctored it.

  11. This is one tremendous poem that so clearly sets out much of what is wrong with our society. I was bowled over first by this:we have come to believe that the six year old child going to school not fully clothedis less important than the billionaire becoming a trillionairefreedom for all – freedom from all – free for allYour poem should be inscribed in some public place – maybe The House of Commons.

  12. I like the refraining lines of "freedom for all – freedom from all – free for all" ~ You have covered a lot of issues here, but sadly that is the state of our world ~ Thanks for sharing your thoughts ~

  13. Heaven there is so much screaming today about freedom … no one seems to get that with freedom comes responsibility. It has become a selfish refrain.

Your words of response are greatly appreciated.
